This page summarizes how the DARENDER virtual machine has been set up as of sprint 2012.

Installed Autodesk Maya 2012 and Backburner 2008.1

  • Obtained copies of Maya and Backburner from OIT
  • Accepted the default install location (C:\Program Files (x86)\Autodesk\Backburner\) and continued install
  • Registered Maya using Clarkson's Licence server.

Started & Configured Backburner Manager

  • Note: This is all done logged into the NodeAdmin account
  • Set the Default Mail Server to mymail.clarkson.edu
  • Modified the Users path to reside on the storage drive
  • Modified Default Job Handling to archive old jobs after 7 days
  • Modified the number of Max Concurrent Assignments to be 30
    • Note: This controls the number of jobs the Manager sends out simultaneously. It may need to be modified based on the load presented to the server.
  • Clicked OK

  • Allowed backburner manager 2.3 rules (tcp & udp) and TCP/UDP port 3234 for all profiles through the firewall from the Clarkson Academic Network (128.153.0.0/17, 128.153.138.0/23, 128.153.140.0/22)
  • Disabled all other backburner rules that were automatically added during the install

Configured Backburner Manager to run as a service

  • Note: These steps are done from an Administrator account on the system.
  • Opened a command prompt (run as administrator) and navigated to C:\Program Files (x86)\Autodesk\Backburner
  • Ran managersvc -i
  • Opened up Server Manager > Configuration > Services and configured the Backburner Manager service to run under the NodeAdmin account
    • Note: The NodeAdmin account is a local account on the server which exists on each of the nodes as well. The username & password for this account must be the same on the master and on the nodes for file sharing to work correctly.

Important Notes

  • If you are installing a newer version of Maya, you may need to look up what versions of back burner will actually work.
