Useful Commands is a list of commands that do useful things to monitor your system. Generally these are Debian commands, but are not limited to that.

General System

Get uptime

uptime -p

Get Power On Date

uptime -s

CPU

Monitoring (with other system stats)

htop
top

Ram

List Ram usage per case

free

Disk

List block devices (hard drives, flash drives, CD's, etc)

lsblk

List first level disk usage (of the directory you are in - use in root to get full system) (Note: does not jump filesystems):

du -chxd 1 | sort -h

Network

Monitor Network Traffic (src, dest, speed, rate, total data, etc)

iftop
